What is your policy on nannies or other family members working in the classroom?
SPNS welcomes all members of a child’s family, including grandparents, to be the “work parent” in the classroom. The “work parent” must attend an orientation before they can work in the classroom. A limited number of nannies are allowed per class to work in the classroom in place of a family member. An enrolled family is responsible for insuring the nanny while at SPNS and may be asked to sign a release of liability form.
What is your policy on bringing siblings on my workday?
In our Preschool Class, our policy allows work parents to bring a younger sibling who is not yet mobile and can be carried in a front style carrier without being disruptive to the class. We do not allow families to bring older siblings on their workday. We encourage families to trade childcare services with other SPNS families for coverage on their workdays. We will work with you to find a solution. Siblings, 5 and under, can attend the Afternoon Parent/Child Class.
What if my child has an allergy?
If your child has an allergy, our teachers will work with you to implement your child’s medical plan and/or exclude allergens from their diet at school. Our school is a “nut-free” space, meaning no nut products or processed-with-nut products are allowed.
Does my child have to be potty trained?
No, children do not need to be potty trained to attend SPNS. Families are required to provide diapers and wipes as needed, and when appropriate, the teachers will work with you to help potty train your child.
What are the parent requirements for the Preschool Class?
We require families to help in the classroom one day a week on a rotating basis. There are some weeks in which a family is on-call (only needed for a last-minute emergency) or off the schedule. Each family must also attend an orientation meeting in August. Families attend two mandatory Parent Education Night/Class Meetings throughout the year, typically held in October and March. All enrolled families are invited to the Parent Education portion of the evening. Families choose a school-wide committee job based on your talents and preferences. We require families to help during 2 of 3 Saturday Parent/Teacher Cleaning Parties, spread throughout the year, however we do offer an opt-out option for $75/Saturday. Please see our Parent Participation section for more information.
What are the parent requirements for the Afternoon Parent/Child Class?
We require an adult to attend the Afternoon Parent/Child Class and supervise their own child. Each family must also attend an orientation meeting at the beginning of the year. Families choose a school-wide committee job based on your talents and preferences. We require families to help during 2 of 3 Saturday Parent/Teacher Cleaning Parties, spread throughout the year, however we do offer an opt-out option for $75/child/Saturday.
Do you have online classes?
No. At this time, we do not offer any online options for our programming.
